    The great news is, this doesn’t mean you have to miss out on a great Wellness Center class that is proven to get results. The answer is on-demand training from Les Mills. It’s the workout for wherever you are, offering every type of exercise: HIIT, cardio, strength, core and flexibility.

  • 1 Exercise is Medicine Show More

    Join us with the East Jefferson General Hospital Exercise is Medicine program.

    Exercise is Medicine is an initiative launched by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the American Medical Association (AMA) focused on encouraging health care providers to include exercise when designing treatment plans for patients.

    The purpose of the program is to partner with physicians to lead patients to understand and act on using regular exercise as a method of treatment for attaining and maintaining health.

    Exercise is Medicine is a 12-week program designed to help treat and prevent dozens of diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, back pain, heart disease and obesity.

    As a participant in Exercise is Medicine, you will meet with a Health Fitness Expert for an initial fitness assessment, goal development and exercise prescription. Your participation and progress will be reported to your doctor and a complete a reassessment will be done after weeks six and 12.

    Program includes meeting with a Health Fitness Expert and nutritionist every other week as well as:

    • One, 90 minute initial assessment with an exercise physiologist
    • Two, 60 minute re-assessments at weeks six and 12
    • One, 90 minute nutrition consult
    • One, 30 minute follow up nutrition consult at week 9
    • Weekly check-ins via phone or email with a Registered Dietitian

     

    Cost for the 12-week program is just $192 or three easy payments of $64.

    High cholesterol is one of the major controllable risk factors for coronary heart disease, heart attack and stroke. And since high cholesterol has no symptoms, the only way to know your levels is by having them checked. The East Jefferson General Hospital Wellness Center now offers comprehensive cholesterol screenings, including total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, TC/HDL ratio, triglycerides, glucose and blood pressure at just $30 for members ($40 for nonmembers).

A professional boxing trainer who has worked with world champions throughout the country will teach the art of throwing punches through heavy bag and mitt regimes, defensive stances, and the importance of always maintaining balance. Stressed in this program is proper technique to maximize effort and to avoid injury.

    EJGH Wellness Center presents relaxing Tai Chi exercises in various art galleries at NOMA Monday evenings at 6pm. Or join us for Yoga or Pilates Saturday mornings at 8am among NOMA’s outstanding permanent collection, or if weather permitting, in the Besthoff Sculpture Garden.

    Classes are $5 or free to members of EJGH Wellness Center, EJGH Healthy Lifestyles or members of NOMA.

  • 2 Therapeutic Yoga Show More

    Therapeutic Yoga serves participants who are not able to get down or up on a floor mat easily. It is especially appropriate for cancer survivors – including those who are still in chemotherapy and radiation treatment, with a doctor’s approval – recovery after illness and injury, back care, knee and hip replacement, chronic pain, fluid retention issues, and general movement limitations.

    Therapeutic Yoga is often the next step after physical therapy. Based on physical limitations/restrictions, members are taught simple modifications to yoga poses to promote comfort and relaxation during a beginning yoga practice.

Classes take place every Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Wellness Center and is free to members. Drop-ins are welcome, or participants can register on our online class scheduler.

Join Certified “Yoga For Cancer” instructor Elaine Agamy for a 6-week Yoga for Cancer series. This series is for people currently going through cancer treatment or in remission to enjoy the benefits of Yoga.

Class meets once per week at the Wellness Center during which time participants will be able to meet with a Certified “Yoga for Cancer” instructor on Mondays at 1:15 p.m. at the Wellness Center. On Fridays, a family member or friend can join in for no extra charge for activities such as meditation, reiki, massage and a nutrition class.

Sessions begin January 08, and cost to join in is $60 for non-members and includes a full membership to the WC for the six weeks. For Wellness Center Member, cost is included in the price of membership.

As part of our Yoga for Cancer program, community members and current program participants can attend FREE classes. All classes are from 10:30am to 11:30am. The program provides safe and effective exercise training, education, and therapy for the mind, body, and spirit. Cancer patients, survivors, loved ones and caretakers are all welcome.

6-Week Program Includes:
